UNICEF's competition to participate in the UN Climate Summit COP29

TERMS AND CONDITIONS


Who can participate in the competition?

The UNICEF competition to participate in the UN Climate Summit COP29 is open to all young people aged 14-24 living in Greece, regardless of their country of origin.


If the winner is a minor (under 18), he/she will need written consent from his/her parents or legal guardians to participate in COP29. No entry by minors will be accepted by UNICEF without the written permission of their parents or legal guardians.


Participation can be either personal or representing a group. In the event that a team entry is won, the team must choose one person to represent them. UNICEF will not be involved in the selection process of the team representative.


What is the duration of the competition?

Competition launches on Friday 30 August

Competition closes on Monday 30 September 2024 at 23:59 EET.


How do I enter the competition?

To enter the competition, you must follow the steps below before 30 September 2024 at 23:59 EET:

     

     1. Send the word "Greenpal" to one of the following channels:


        o Viber, at public chat “ureportgreece”.

 
              o  Facebook Messenger, at U-Report Greece.


 o  WhatsApp, at +30 695 548 3316.

 

 o   Instagram, at @ureportgreece

     

         

          2. Complete all five Green-Pal tasks 





     

             


    3. In the task "Create your own climate awareness campaign", you will be asked to upload a photo of your climate action plan in .jpg or .jpeg or .png




     

               


    4. Write your name and email correctly, as Green-Pal asks you once you have completed all the exercises.


    Note: Your information will remain confidential. We will only use and store them for as long as necessary and strictly only for the purposes for which they were collected.

     

    5. The Competition Evaluation Committee will make an initial evaluation of the submitted action plans and select the 5 best.
    6.  Once your action plan is selected, you will be asked to make a short oral presentation to the Evaluation Committee, in English.

    Note: The UNICEF team will notify you well in advance about the day and time of the presentation, which can take place at the UNICEF Office in Athens or online, depending on where you live.
    7. The Committee will jointly evaluate the quality of your action plan and oral presentation, and will select the best entry.


    What should the Climate Action Plan contain?

    The Climate Action Plan should reflect your proposals for dealing with climate change and its impacts. In case you represent a group, the Action Plan must reflect the proposals of your group.

    The Action Plan must come from an individual or a group of participants aged 14-24. In the case of a group entry, the group should choose one person as a representative. UNICEF will not be involved in the process of selecting a representative of the group, both for the oral presentation before the Evaluation Committee and for the participation in COP29. 


    The Action Plan should have the following characteristics:


    o Be written in a simple and understandable language (Greek or English).

    o To clearly describe how the proposed solution could be implemented (see at Selection criteria section below)

    o Not contain material that is defamatory, offensive, racist, offensive or illegal.


    The oral presentation of the Action Plan should meet the following conditions:


          o To be done in English in front of the committee.

         o There must be consistency and an obvious connection with the action plan that you will have already submitted.


    What are the selection criteria?

    Specifically, the Action Plan will be judged based on the following objectives:


                       o Quality of content (5 points) – a good action plan should include Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-bound goals and should be written in simple and understandable language (English or Greek).

                       o Creativity and Innovation (5 points)


    Once your action plan will be short-listed, an oral presentation will follow. Regarding the oral presentation, the main selection criteria will be the fluency in English (5 points) and the strong presentation skills (5 points)The selection will be made by a jury composed of staff members of the UNICEF Office in Greece.


    Prize

    One winner will be selected, as well as 2 alternates in the event that, due to unforeseen circumstances, the winner is unable to travel to COP29.


    For the winner, all expenses (air tickets, accommodation, meals) to attend COP29 in Baku will be covered by the UNICEF Greece Country Office.


    The winner will be notified by UNICEF in the first ten days of October, via email to the email address provided at the completion of the Green-Pal exercises.


    When will the COP29 Climate Summit take place?


    This year's United Nations Climate Summit COP29 will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan on November 11-22, 2024. The winner must be available throughout this period. The exact date of the trip will be determined according to the Summit schedule and will be communicated to the winner in the first ten days of October.


    By submitting the Climate Action Plan through the U-Report platform, participants agree to these terms and conditions.


    Participation in the competition implies full acceptance of these terms and conditions.


    Failure to comply with the terms and conditions will result in disqualification of the participant.
